Bulk Spices, Herbs & Seasonings Buying Guide
KEVIDKO Buying Guides · Professional Kitchens
Build the flavor your customers come back for.
A signature dish needs a repeatable recipe—and the right ingredients behind it. Explore bulk spices, dried herbs, seasoning blends, kosher salt, pepper, and bouillon for restaurants, BBQ kitchens, taquerías, bakeries, caterers, and commissaries.
Choose the right form, compare the actual pack quantity, and build a purchasing list around the way your kitchen cooks.
Consistency Starts Before the First Batch.
Specify the Ingredient
Record the brand, spice form, and pack size. Whole peppercorns, ground pepper, and extra-coarse BBQ pepper serve different preparation needs.
Measure the Recipe
Set a repeatable amount for each batch. When changing a brand, grind, or seasoning blend, test the recipe before rolling it out across service.
Buy for Real Usage
Choose an order size your kitchen can use and store well. The largest package is useful when your production volume justifies it.
Individual Ingredients · Control Your Recipe
Build Your Core Spice and Herb Pantry
Individual spices let your kitchen control the balance of a house blend. Specify each ingredient separately so a purchasing substitution does not quietly change the finished dish.
Garlic, Onion & Mustard
Compare granulated garlic and garlic powder as separate formats. Add onion powder and dry mustard for recipes that call for them.
Paprika, Cumin, Turmeric & Crushed Pepper
Stock the color, heat, and seasoning components your menu uses. Fancy Spanish paprika is listed here without assuming it is smoked.
Oregano: Keep the Recipe Specific
Greek / Mediterranean oregano and Mexican oregano have separate listings. Keep the intended variety on your order sheet.
Stockpot & Herb Pantry
Whole bay leaves and whole thyme provide options for soups, stocks, sauces, and roasted dishes.

Salt and Pepper Deserve Their Own Buying Decisions
Look beyond the ingredient name. Pepper form and salt brand belong in your recipe specification, while the case count belongs in your purchasing calculation.
Whole & Ground Pepper
Choose whole pepper for recipes or compatible grinders, ground black pepper for measured prep, or white pepper where the recipe calls for it.
Extra-Coarse BBQ Pepper
A 50 lb, 16-mesh format for kitchens with substantial pepper usage. Compare it against actual rub production, storage space, and replenishment needs.
Kosher Salt: The Box Size Matches. The Case Count Does Not.
| Product | Boxes per Case | Total Labeled Net Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt, 3 lb Box (9/Case) | 9 × 3 lb | 27 lb |
| Morton Coarse Kosher Salt, 3 lb Box (12/Case) | 12 × 3 lb | 36 lb |
Compare the current case price against total net weight. Keep the chosen brand on the recipe and validate the seasoning when making a substitution.
Ready-Made Blends · Repeatable Prep
Recognizable Seasonings for the Dishes You Sell Every Day
Prepared blends give your kitchen a defined starting point. Keep the exact product on the recipe card and review its ingredients before adding separate salt or other seasonings.
Grill, Roast & Everyday Seasoning
Compare a steak seasoning, seasoned salt, Cajun blend, and garlic salt for your proteins, vegetables, and sides.
Old Bay: Two Different Order Sizes
Choose the 24 oz format or the 7.5 lb format according to your rate of use.
Dressings & Dips
Plan batches around the 3.2 oz packets and follow the package’s preparation instructions. Finished yield depends on the specified recipe.
Finishing & Fruit Service
Two 400 g containers provide 800 g total per pack. Allocate them to the stations that use the blend.
Whole Spices for Infusions. Ground Spices for Measured Mixing.
Match the ingredient form to the preparation. A cinnamon stick for an infusion and ground cinnamon for a batter belong on separate lines of the purchasing list.
Cinnamon & Warm-Spice Recipes
Compare ground cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves for baking, spiced beverages, and recipe-directed infusions.
Pods, Flowers & Specialty Recipes
Explore cardamom, star anise, and lavender for recipes that specify these ingredients.
Complete the service side with the Bakery Packaging & Supplies Guide and Coffee Shop & Café Supplies Guide.
Bouillon and Soup Bases for Batch Preparation
Keep chicken and beef bases specified separately for soups, broths, sauces, and other house recipes. Package weight is not the same as prepared yield.
Chicken Base
Follow the package’s directions for preparation and dilution, then incorporate the prepared base into your recipe.
Beef Base
Use the specified preparation method and account for the base when balancing the rest of the recipe’s seasoning.
Five Substitutions to Review Before You Approve the Order
| Buying Decision | Products to Compare | What to Record |
|---|---|---|
| Granulated garlic or garlic powder | Granulated Garlic, 7 lb (1/Each) Garlic Powder, 5 lb (1/Each) | The exact form and measured recipe amount. Do not assume a volume-based substitution gives the same result. |
| Garlic powder or garlic salt | Garlic Powder, 5 lb (1/Each) Garlic Salt, 10 lb (1/Each) | Garlic salt introduces salt as well as garlic seasoning; review the complete recipe. |
| Whole, ground, or extra-coarse pepper | Compare the Pepper Selection | Whether the spice is ground during preparation, mixed directly, or used for visible rub texture. |
| Whole cinnamon or ground cinnamon | Whole Cinnamon Sticks, 6 oz (1/Each) 5 lb Ground Cinnamon Jug (1/Each) | The form the recipe uses and how it is incorporated. |
| Individual spices or prepared blend | Individual Spices & Herbs Seasoning Blends | Brand, ingredient label, batch quantity, and any separate salt additions. |
For dietary or allergen requirements, check the current manufacturer label for the exact item. Do not infer an allergen-free, gluten-free, organic, or certification claim from a generic product name.
Buy the Quantity Your Kitchen Can Use Well
Compare Like-for-Like Units
Cost per ounce = current selling-unit price ÷ total labeled net ounces. For gram-based items, compare cost per gram. Include every container in a case or pack.
The 7.5 lb Old Bay container holds 120 oz—five times the labeled weight of the 24 oz option. That is a quantity comparison, not a claim that the larger size always has the lower unit price.
Calculate Cost per Batch
Ingredient cost per batch = cost per unit of weight × weight used in the batch. Divide by finished portions for ingredient cost per portion.
Use net ingredient weight, not shipping weight, and keep the same measurement unit throughout the calculation.
A Practical Reorder Example
If a kitchen uses 1.5 lb of a spice per week, plans for four weeks, and wants a 1 lb buffer, its target stock is 7 lb. With 2 lb usable stock on hand and no incoming stock, the net requirement is 5 lb—one 5 lb package.
Use your own consumption, storage space, confirmed delivery schedule, and product dates. This example is not a shelf-life estimate or delivery lead-time promise.
Make Storage Part of the Order
Keep containers closed, identify decanted ingredients, and follow the manufacturer’s storage instructions. Record product and lot details, use dates to guide rotation, and keep the ingredient specification available to the prep team.
Browse Food Storage Containers & Lids, Kitchen & Portion Scales, and Measuring Cups & Spoons to support a consistent preparation process. Check container and lid compatibility separately.

Yes. The salt and pepper section includes extra-coarse 16-mesh BBQ black pepper, whole and ground pepper options, Diamond Crystal kosher salt, and Morton coarse kosher salt.
